Spring into Books

As March comes to an end and April shows its promise of spring, little ones get anxious to get outside and explore how the world is blooming around them. With COVID and winter we all feel a little cooped up. What better way to shake away those winter blues than to take a nature hike?

Take your little ones on a walk, a scavenger hunt or even play eye spy as you walk on one of the gorgeous spring days that lay ahead.  Trails, pathways, parks and meadows, ponds, lakes, sandy beaches and mud puddles await the pitter patter of little feet. Look for sticks and rocks, blooming flowers, insects. Catch a glimpse of a spider’s web in the morning dew. Find tadpoles just beginning their journey into becoming a frog. Watch as a fuzzy caterpillar climbs along a leaf devouring all its juicy deliciousness.

After your walk, head home to clean up and have a nice quiet story and a snack. Below find some of my favorite springtime books. I hope you enjoy.

If You Plant a Seed ~ Kadir Nelson

Too Many Carrots ~ Katy Hudson

We Are The Gardeners ~ Joanna Gaines and Kids

Up in the Garden and Down in the Dirt ~ Kate Messner

Let It Rain ~ Maryann Colca Leffle

The Very Hungry Caterpillar ~ Eric Carle

Make Way for Ducklings ~ Robert McCloskey

The Tiny Seed ~ Eric Carle

The Adventures of Frog and Toad ~ Arnold Lobel
