Everyone knows I love to read. Another hobby I love is embroidery. My grandmother was always knitting, crocheting or tatting, making lace. Both of my sisters can knit and crochet. Being the baby of the family I somehow missed those beautiful lessons. I’m the youngest of four and for some reason needle work was always difficult for me.

A few years ago my sister Jennifer sat me down to teach me how to embroider. She started teaching me easy stitches and gradually moved me to the more difficult stitches. I’m now totally in love with doing embroidery. My favorite is making embroidered pillow cases for my family. I love the time it takes for me to complete a project because it’s quiet and very calming.

My favorite memory of my journey was when I was trying to learn how to make a French knot. I couldn’t get it figured out. My sister would show me over and over, then I’d go home and forget how to do it. I’d watch videos on YouTube to help me but with no success.

Finally, at our cottage I sat in my sisters lap and she help my hands while I pushed the needle through the material, wrapped the tread around my needle twice, punched the needle back through the material all while holding the thread letting it loop around my finger before pulling it taught. Then going to the underside to tie the two threads into a knot. Yes!!! I got it! I figured it out. All while sitting on my sisters lap. Now that’s love. I’ve never forgotten how to make the French knot. It’s bedded into my mind and it’s bedded into my heart. Thank you Jennifer. What hobbies do you enjoy?
