Monday Mornings from My Porch

Monday Mornings from My Porch

Happy Monday and Happy Independence Day to all my American friends. I seem to usually post to my blog on Monday mornings, so I thought I would give it a title and try to stick to this schedule. It seems relaxing to me to post after calm or even busy weekends like this past holiday weekend.

I have my coffee and my dogs by my feet, so all feels right to write. All right, all right, all right… or as Mathew McConaughey says….

This week, I thought I would give you a run down on all my current projects. In no particular order, here they are.

  1. My second children’s picture book is about my grandmother and her best friend up at our cottage in Michigan. Set in post war times, money is sparce but imagination is not. With six children wanting to be fed and only a few items to be found in the refrigerator their hearts and imaginations will both be pleased. This book is with my illustrator, but we have a meeting scheduled for some time soon so I’m hoping to give you a sneak peak.
  2. My memoirs. If you follow me on the gram, you know that I am currently writing my memoirs from my time living as an expat in the Netherlands. This project is huge and will take me probably longer to write than the five years I spent living there. I’ve said before that I write for myself and if others enjoy then that is an added bonus. This story, American Girl in Holland is truly that as well. I’m putting all of my memories in book form so that my family will never forget the amazing journey we took for a short period of our lives.
  3. I’ve started a new ABC book. I’m not going to tell you more until it is finished. But… I think you will love it.
  4. In my author coaching world, we’re kind of on a summer break. A few of my students are traveling and I was traveling. One of the best perks of being an author is being able to write when you have time. Actually, when I travel, I love to write. Most of my books are set in a place where I have traveled. But one of my author students and I got to meet face to face when I traveled to Branson this summer. She lives there and I was there visiting my aunt who lives there. We had so much fun drinking coffee, chatting and of course helping her work on her book. It made us both wish we lived closer. A writer’s retreat was discussed and I’m seriously considering hosting a get together.
  5. Speaking of getting together with other writers, I had the most amazing zoom call with my new friend Jane from France. I love that in today’s world we are capable of connecting all over the world. Jane reached out to me on Instagram, and we immediately fell into a great conversation. We decided to zoom so that we could talk face to face. We spent at least two hours chatting, laughing, sharing and genuinely enjoying being able to connect with each other. Her precious books called Jolly Ollie Octopus and Jolly Ollie and his Australian Adventure. You can find them on her website via this link Jolly Ollie Octopus | books to educate, engage and enchant (jolly-ollie.com) . Check her out. They are super cute! Jane and I are going to talk again very soon, and I am looking forward to sharing our ideas.

I’m giving away a freebie this week to everyone who is one my email list. This means you would be subscribed to my blog on WordPress and my newsletter that I send out about every 2-3 months. If you are looking for a fun freebie, make sure I have your e mail. I will be doing lots of nice things for only my e mail subscribers. Here are two ways to subscribe.
