Saturday Snippets ~ Meet Dolores

In this week’s episode of Saturday Snippets, I’m inviting you behind the scenes of my next children’s book. Last time, you met my grandmother, the heart and soul of the story. Today, it’s time to introduce the other half of the fearless duo who once piled six kids into a car and set off for the cottage with little more than faith and laughter to get them through.

Some people in life are more than family, they’re the ones who hold your history, keep your secrets, and make you laugh until your sides ache. For us, that person has always been Dolores. She was my grandmother’s best friend, my mother’s best friend, and in many ways, the keeper of our family’s stories. Dolores remembered everything: the songs we sang in the car, the long summers at the cottage, and the adventures that nearly unraveled but always ended with smiles.

In my upcoming book, she shines right alongside my grandmother, proving that love, humor, and resourcefulness can stretch a dime further than you’d ever believe. Somehow, those two managed to whip up cottage breakfasts that made us feel like royalty, never letting us realize how little we had.

Dolores wasn’t just part of the story—she made sure the story lived on. She carried the laughter, the struggles, and the small miracles from one generation to the next, weaving them together like threads in a patchwork quilt. That’s why she belongs in this book—not just as a character, but as the story keeper herself. Every family needs one… and ours was blessed with Dolores.
