There is something about October that makes me want to slow down just a little.
Maybe it’s the cooler mornings, the changing leaves, or the feeling that the year is beginning to settle in for a long winter’s rest. October seems to whisper, Come sit for a while. You don’t have to hurry.
I love the coziness of this time of year. Sweaters come out of closets, books seem to call a little louder, and writing feels especially inviting. There is something wonderful about sitting down with a notebook and letting an idea wander wherever it wants to go.

October also feels like a month made for family.
Pumpkin patches and hayrides. Football games and chili dinners. Little ones dressed up in costumes and knocking on doors. Carving pumpkins, telling old stories, watching favorite movies, and laughing at things that probably weren’t quite as funny the next morning.
And then there are the simple things.
A walk when the air is crisp. A favorite book. A blanket on the couch. A kitchen that smells like something good is cooking. An afternoon with family when nobody is in quite as much of a hurry.

I think that’s what I love most about this season. October doesn’t demand that we reinvent ourselves. It simply invites us to notice what is already around us.
The changing trees.
The people we love.
The stories waiting to be written.
The memories we are making without even realizing they will become the ones we remember years from now.
As a writer, I sometimes find myself thinking that every little moment needs to become a story. But I’m learning that some moments are meant simply to be lived.
So this October, I’m going to do a little writing, a little reading, a little dreaming, and hopefully a whole lot of enjoying the people I love.
Maybe I’ll make something pumpkin flavored along the way.
Maybe I’ll finish a few pages.
Maybe I’ll start a few more.
And maybe I’ll simply sit back and watch the season change.
Because October has arrived, and I think it’s worth savoring.
Happy October my friends.

I hope your month is filled with cozy corners, good stories, family laughter, and a few little moments you tuck away just for yourself.
Until next time, keep reading.
Lisa
