In My Office Today, My Writing

My April Writing Adventure

April Showers

By Lisa Jochim

Pitter patter

Goes the rain,

Hitting the roof and

Down the drains.

Soaking the ground, the sun aglow,

Little buds begin to begin to grow.

Tiny galoshes run through puddles,

Flash, Crash, Bash,

Umbrellas high and smiles wide,

Splash, splash, splash!

This coming up weekend I make the trek to my beloved summer cottage. Yes, I know it is still spring, but repairs and springtime cleaning is on the to do list. We have just installed a new heater and so we must replace the floor where we took out the unappealing huge eye sore of a heater. It sat in the middle of the room and I was always worried about little ones touching it. We have a new one attached to the wall leaving a huge gap in the floor where the other one used to be.

When I arrive at our cottage, the first thing I do is go stand on the stairs that lead down to the Little Bear Lake and say a hearty hello to my beloved friend. Little Bear holds all my childhood memories of summers spent growing up in Northern Michigan. My first book was about my precious chocolate lab that I named Little Bear. My second children’s book takes place at the lake. This place is truly dear to my heart.

After daily coffee while watching the sun rise, wrapped in a warm blanket and early morning chores, I love to sit down in my sleeping porch and write. If the weather permits, I open all the windows and let the wind blow through the porch. The view being deep in the Michigan woods overlooking the beautiful lake is therapy for my soul. It is here in this tiny cottage that my best writing happens.

Here in Texas, we are already experiencing temperatures in the 80’s. I’ve looked ahead to the weather for the next week and it’s going to be in the 50’s. Time to pull out the boots and coats again. Perfect for rainy, muddy, April.

Next weeks post will come to you via my beloved Michigan.
