Summer’s End

Summer’s End

September 1, 2021

As September begins, summer activities are quickly ending as well. The kids in the area are back to school. Friday Night Lights are happening with Friday night football games around the state. There’s a chill in the air…. WAIT! There’s no chill in the air, I live in Texas.

I just talked to my sisters, who are both up at our cottage in Michigan. As they were settling onto the couch so we could facetime all together, my sister Jennifer said, “It’s cold, I need a blanket.”. The high was going to be in the 70’s today and they were going to blissfully take a boat ride around the lake and enjoy the weather. Joy and envy swirled around my heart as I know they are having the best time together. I don’t know about you, but I have the best relationship with my sisters. They are my best friends. We are far apart in miles, but our hearts beat as one.

As a child growing up in Michigan the first of September and the beginning of fall meant cooler temperatures, crisp Carmel apples, football nights with a sweatshirt on and fall festivals. I think therefore even now as an adult my heart and soul ache for cooler temperatures during this time of year. The coolness feels homey to me.

I still may be able to swim in my pool, but the desire is less than in the beginning of summer. My internal clock is wanting to curl up by a cozy fire with a good book and sip coffee all day.

It’s ok, I’d better make that an iced coffee and a bon fire.

  1. What a beautiful post to begin one of my favorite seasons soon! I love the closeness you and your sisters share. And I’m with you on a bonfire. I’m counting down days to Alaska and I’ll feel the warmness of the babies’ love and the crispness of the Alaskan air! Love and hugs my dear friend.
